jest jedyną szkołą artystyczną w mieście. Tworzą ją Państwowa Szkoła Muzyczna I stopnia im. Grzegorza Gerwazego Gorczyckiego w Rudzie Śląskiej oraz Miejska Szkoła Muzyczna II stopnia w Rudzie Śląskiej. Państwowa Szkoła Muzyczna I stopnia została powołana w dniu 26 lipca 1971 roku. W szkole od początku odbywało się kształcenie w cyklu sześcio i czteroletnim. Pierwszym dyrektorem Państwowej Szkoły Muzycznej był Zbigniew Lipski, który zarządzał nią w latach 1971-1977. Jego następcą był Zbigniew Wojciechowski, który funkcję dyrektora pełnił do roku 1983...
